The Play5 projects are designed to support teachers, parents and community groups to promote physical activity.
Play5 is a health message based on the idea that
- Sufficient daily physical activity can be achieved by participating in at least 5 bouts of moderate to vigorous physical activity of approximately 10 minutes duration per day (an accumulation of 60 minutes).
- The Play5 concept is easier to action than the current physical activity guidelines that recommend at least 60 minutes each day for children and 30 minutes each day for adults.
- Play is fun and natural.
Play5 activities are those considered as moderate to vigorous in intensity and could include walking to the park, playing on the climbing frame in the park, playing in the backyard, swimming at the beach or pool, playing with a friend, playing netball or football, riding on a tricycle, or sweeping the kitchen floor.
